Training in Prague

We are based at Letňany Airport. Metro C, station Letňany.

Become an Airline Pilot or a private jet pilot.

How to become an Airline Transport Pilot?

Becoming a transport pilot is not that difficult anymore. What you need is the determination to immerse yourself in learning to fly with the appropriate enthusiasm and simply persevere. A love and a strong desire to want to fly are necessary to successfully complete this training. If your motivation for this training is only to get a prestigious job, that will not be enough.

Health prerequisites

A Class I medical licence is required to be a professional pilot. The initial examination is carried out at the Institute of Aviation Medicine in Prague and takes 2 days.

We recommend that you take this examination before you start the training to ensure that you do not have any medical complications that would prevent you from becoming a professional pilot.

The examination includes a comprehensive health check and psychological tests. In general, you should not suffer from any medical condition that cannot be compensated to a satisfactory state (for example, poor eyesight with glasses) or requires the continued use of medication.

Entry requirements for training

Training can be started as early as 16 years of age by commencing the Private Pilot of Aircraft – PPL(A) training. You must then reach the age of 18 years to obtain further qualifications in training. You can become a pilot in command of a transport aircraft after the age of 21.

There are no other requirements to start training, however, we recommend that you obtain a medical certificate before starting training. A high school diploma is not required for transport pilots and is replaced by an entry mathematics and physics written test.

How long does it take to train as a transport pilot

If you take the training full time, i.e. really on a daily basis, the training will take approximately 2 years. However, the training can be spread over a much longer period, especially if you take it while working.

Our best instructors will share their experience

It is important who your instructors will be. Expect a relaxed and friendly attitude throughout your training. We look forward to seeing you…

The path to a career as an Airline Transport Pilot

How does the training of a transport pilot work?

Our flight school offers a modular airline transport pilot training, during which you gradually acquire the required qualifications and their timetable is largely up to your time and financial possibilities.

6. Navigation flights (time building) - 50 hours of solo flying

50 solo navigation flights must be flown before further progression in training. These flights are performed independently without an instructor. The aim is to gain as much flying experience as possible before continuing your training.

7. Theoretical course for transport pilots - ATPL(A)

The theoretical course for Airline Transport Pilots contains 13 subjects and you will learn all the theory.
The course takes 650 hours to complete and at the end of the course you have to pass a theoretical exam at the Civil Aviation Authority.

8. Aviation English course - IFR exam

This course and exam focus on communication in English for IFR flights. The course takes approximately 40 hours to complete.
Successful completion is a prerequisite for obtaining an IR(A) instrument rating.

9. Instrument Flight Training - IFR

An important part of the training of a future Airline Transport Pilot is the ability to fly only by instruments.
This training includes 50 hours of flying and is completed by exam with an examinator.
IR(A) SE

10. Independent flights (time building) - 37 hours

For further progression, i.e. to start training as a commercial pilot CPL(A), a total of 100 hours as PIC is required.

11. Commercial Pilot - CPL(A)

After completing this training, you can perform the work of a pilot as your occupation. However, you can only be a pilot in command on flights outside commercial air transport (airlines) and in commercial transport only as a co-pilot.  The training includes 15 hours of flying.
CPL(A)

12. Twin-engine aircraft qualification - MEP(A)

In this training you will learn to fly twin-engine aircraft. The training includes 6 hours of flying.

13. IFR training for twin-engine aircraft - IR(A) ME

Additional instrument rating on twin-engine aircraft. The training consists of 5 hours of flying and is completed by exam with an examinator.
IR(A) ME

14. Multi-crew cooperation training - MCC

The last training before you can apply for an airline job is to work as part of a multi-crew. The training consists of approximately 20 hours of theory and 20 hours of simulator flying.

15. Selection procedure at the airline

You can now apply for a job as a transport pilot with airlines. Some companies will offer you a type rating on the aircraft you fly as part of a 3-5 year commitment to stay with the company.

16. Type rating for Boeing 737 or Airbus A320

The final step is to complete type training on the aircraft you will be flying.
