MAKE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE

NIGHT(A)

Night flight rating – NIGHT

The night rating allows you to fly a single-pilot aircraft from civil dusk to civil dawn.

It’s great to be able to return from a trip after the sunset

The training is designed to learn to fly at night, both theoretically and practically. We will share with you the experience of night flying, talk about the rules of night flying in other European countries, share the experience of planning suitable weather for night flights and advise you on the tools that have worked well for us.

Flying at night is very similar to IFR flying under IMC and therefore this course assumes knowledge of radio navigation, instrument flying using knowledge of IFR flight routes.

Entry training requirements

  • Valid PPL(A) or LAPL(A) pilot licence
  • Radiotelephonist licence
  • Valid medical licence
  • Pilot insurance with a deductible of 8 333 € and operator’s accident cover (recommended)

Training includes 5 hours of flying + 2 hours of theory

To obtain the night rating, the basic training curriculum is 5 hours of flying and 2 hours of theoretical training.

Ground training and theory

Familiarisation with the definition of night, night flight rating, aircraft and airport lighting, night vision, optical illusions, CFIT, night flying techniques, emergency and abnormal procedures.

Local night flight – piloting technique

Practice of night-time piloting techniques: straight flight, changes of speed and configuration, climbing and descending at constant indicated speed, flight at minimum safe speed, power-on stall, power-off stall, normal take-off and climb, circuit flight, approach and landing.

Local night flight – Circuit flying

Circuit flights, normal take-off and climb, circuit flight, approach and landing. Landing without flaps, without headlight, without cabin lighting. At least 5 solo take-offs and landings with a full stop.

Night navigation flight

Night navigation flight, night flight planning, comparative night navigation, radio navigation. Emergency and abnormal procedures at night. Inadvertent entry to IMC and by instrument at night. Flying mostly to Brno, Ostrava or Dresden.

Basic rules for night flights

  1. A flight plan is required for night flights outside the ATZ in the Czech Republic.
  2. The en-route flight must be planned so that the aircraft always flies at least 2000 ft AGL (above ground level) with exception of take-off and landing. For planning purposes, we recommend using IFR routes which also include minimum flight altitude. The en-route charts can be found in the AIP ENR 6.1 or are available for you in our briefing room.
  3. The minimum lowest layer of clouds for en-route flight must be at least 3000 ft and visibility 8 km. So the METAR should have been same or better than following example: METAR 8000 OVC030
  4. Minimum flight altitude for airport flights is 1300 ft AGL and for circuit flights 1000 ft AGL.
  5. Regardless of whether you fly at night from a controlled or uncontrolled airport, you must have filed a flight plan. In case an uncontrolled aerodrome is used, AFIS or information to known traffic (RADIO) must be provided.
  6. In en route flight, fuel and oil supply is required as for IFR flight. That is, fuel for 45 minutes of flight time including the flight to the alternate aerodrome and the execution of one missed approach.

For more information see AIP ENR 2.5

No exam is required for the NIGHT rating

The NIGHT rating is registered by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) upon completion of the training syllabus without the need for a practical or theoretical examination.

Why should you choose the training in our flight school?

Because we love what we do :-)

  1. You will fly only the most modern aircraft of today.
  2. During the training you will gain experience of flying in controlled airspace around Prague.
  3. We can focus the training from the beginning on experience with flights across Europe.
  4. In training you will fly with experienced and friendly instructors.
  5. Training directly in Prague on metro line C – station Letňany.
  6. Individual and friendly attitude to each client and many other benefits you will appreciate.

We fly the night rating training only with modern aircraft equipped with Garmin 1000

We recommend flying modern IFR aircraft equipped with Garmin 1000. Night training is normally flown with a Cessna 172, but you can also choose any of the aircraft listed below that are certified for night flying.
