Conversion Pilot License FAA to EASA Part‑FCL

The difference between validation and conversion of a licence

Conversion of an FAA licence to EASA means completing the required exams and checks so that an actual EASA licence is issued, giving you a permanent EASA licence independent of the original FAA one

Validation of an FAA/ICAO licence by EASA means temporary recognition of your existing licence, so you can fly under EASA rules for a limited period without obtaining a new EASA licence.

Transition training: A short checkout and SEP refresher in the EASA environment. Theory: Oral PPL-level check, mainly Air Law and Communications. Skill test: PPL(A) skill test under FCL; if you pass on MEP, SEP is added automatically. Missing training: Any gap must be completed at an ATO.

FAA NR→ EASA Night Without night-flying restrictions: NIGHT is generally accepted. To document NIGHT training: 5 hours of night flying, including at least 3 hours dual, 1 hour of night cross-country, 5 solo take-offs, and 5 solo full-stop landings. Proof: logbook entries plus confirmation from the training organization.refresher in the EASA environment. Theory: Oral PPL-level check, mainly Air Law and Communications. CPL Conversion An FAA CPL can be converted directly to an EASA PPL, with IR/MEP added if applicable. To obtain an EASA CPL, you must follow the standard route: EASA CPL/ATPL theory, required ATO training based on your experience, and a CPL skill test. Your FAA hours will be credited and may reduce the amount of training needed.
  • licence_ico
FAA IR(A) → EASA IR(A) Valid FAA IR on SEP/MEP. – ≥50 h IFR PIC: demonstrate IR-level knowledge of air law, IFR flight planning/monitoring, IFR rules, and communications – <50 h IFR PIC: Pass a written exam in these subjects at an EASA CAA. Acclimatization flights , IR skill test IRE(A) on SEP/MEP ; testing on MEP automatically grants SEP privileges. The PPL and IR skill tests can be combined if the examiner is qualified for both and all sections are flown.
  • ico_prukaz2
FAA MEL → EASA MEP (land) Your FAA licence must include the MEL rating. minimum 70 hours PIC on aeroplanes, completed MEP training: 7 hours of theoretical instruction plus exam, at least 2:30 hours dual in normal MEP operations and at least 3:30 hours dual with engine‑out/asymmetric flight training. Training and experience may be under FAA rules, EASA rules, or a combination; they are documented via your logbook and ATO confirmations. You then pass an MEP skill test in accordance with FCL.725 with a Part‑FCL examiner.

You can obtain your pilot licence in as little as 30 days for PPL(A) but you can also fly gradually according to your time availability – we will always adapt to your schedule and find the best way to make you a pilot.

The duration of other training licences are listed on the respective training page.

What does ICAO English mean, and what is an RT Card?

ICAO English is the internationally standardized aviation English level required by ICAO for pilots (minimum Level 4 for normal operations).

What is the difference between a Class 1 and Class 2 medical, and how long does the medical examination take?

A Class 1 medical is the higher standard required for commercial pilots and for students who plan to continue their training up to CPL or ATPL.

A Class 2 medical is intended for private pilots and has slightly less stringent requirements.

An initial Class 1 examination usually takes about one day, depending on additional tests, whereas an initial Class 2 examination typically takes around two hours.
