Which tablet to choose for aviation apps?
For aviation apps it’s preferable to get an iPad because it has the most aviation apps and the most aviation experience. If you already own an Android tablet, test to see if it will work for cockpit work and then you can decide. Unfortunately some apps are not available for it or not fully debugged.
What to look out for when choosing an iPad?
When choosing an iPad, it’s important to choose a model that has a cellular connection to the Internet. Some iPads only have WiFi connectivity. If the iPad has cellular data, it automatically has a GPS module. WiFi-only models do not have GPS because they only use WiFi and possibly other available network information to locate their position, which is useless for aerial navigation. If you’re buying new, choose a model with 5G network support already.
Choose the size so that the tablet fits comfortably on your knee. The ideal size is the standard 10.9″ or iPad mini 8.3″.
